Mission Statement
Barney Family Daycare Inc. exists to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for all ages from 6 months old to preschool and school age children. Our focus is to provide a stimulating early care and education experience which promotes each child's social/emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our goal is to support children's desire to be life-long learners.
We follow
Reggio Emilia's approach to increase creativity, but we utilize parts of the well-known Montessori method to combine their little exploring minds with increased educational discipline, while none of their scheduled activities will compromise liveliness of their age.

Choosing a Daycare

How are we different?

There is a %100 satisfaction guarantee policy in place. In order for us to commit to this, we won't charge you for the first session. During this session, we follow a very distinct procedure for the new comer.
We observe:
  • How they react to our daily activities. (e.g.: Are they team players or prefer to be left alone? Do they show respect to other members [either to the caregivers or to the other kids]. If they have any personal preferences, like choosing painting over making crafts)
  • How fast they feel at home: This is one of the strongest points of my daycare. I strongly believe that anxiety is a child's worst enemy. We may not be able to do much about the first few weeks of separation anxiety, but children should not have full days of tension. A daycare center is not military. It's not even school. Children must feel like they "own" the place. They must know that I'm there so serve them, not to control them. They should only obey the rules, because they trust the center's ability to support their needs, not because of the possible consequences; Because of all that, I urge them to take ownership and do what they want.
  • How punctual the parents are: We work at least 5 days a week. At occasions, we may have outdoor trips and/or sleep overs. My daycare needs to be sanitized. Food needs to be made fresh. I need time to shop, clean, and of course take care of personal necessities like health and dental care. Punctuality is very important to me. Extended hours are ONLY acceptable if I agree to them at least 24 hours in advance.
  • How they feel when they leave: If a child does not wave hands at the time of departure, if they don't smile and if they say anything other than "I had fun" [at the very least], then it means I failed to provide proper care. If that happens .... if that ever happens, I will help the parents in any ways that I can, to find an alternative care center.
Bottom line, if a child is happy and compatible with the daycare, and if their feedback is %100 positive, only then, we enroll them in our center. That's my promise. That's my mission.

FAQ

Are you a family daycare or a multi-age childcare?

We are licensed as multi-age childcare, and I have ECE certicication, but initially registered our name as "Barney Family Daycare Inc" as a corporation. The name does not affect the licesnse and our programs.

Do you have any helpers, and who certifies them?

It is very unlikely that I leave the care to a 3rd party, however, occasionally I may need assistance. It is mandatory that daycares use a person:
    >Who is 19 years or older
    >Who has a clean criminal record
    >Who has first aid certification
    >Is confirmed by a health care official to be mentally and physically able to work with children.

I set the standards higher and if I ever use a person for assistance, I either use another licensee or at least an ECE assistant with both academic and practical knowledge.
